FAI 5 Aside Soccer tournament
Report: Boys Make it to the Semi Finals only to narrowly miss out on a final spot by penalties.
Today 16 of the Boys Soccer Team got to represent the school in 2 teams (A & B) in the FAI 5 A-Side Tournament at Irishtown Stadium in Ringsend.
Team A lost their opening match 2-1 to a strong side from Ballyfermot. The team then went on to win their remaining 3 matches, 4-1, 3-0 and 3-0 to end the group with 9 points out of 12.
It was a 3 way tie at the top of the group with each team having 9 points. The playoff match was decided on goal difference to which both St Joseph’s and Shellybanks were level on Goal Difference.
This playoff match ended 2-1 to our boys after being 1-0 down and this put us through to the semi finals of the tournament.
The Semi Final match against St Patrick’s didn’t disappoint, with St Joseph’s coming back from a 2-0 score to level the game 2-2. The match went to penalties to which the boys unfortunately lost 2-1 on.
Team B put in a huge performance in their group matches with plenty of great goals scored in the competition.
Mr O’Connor, Mr Dingley and all at St Joseph’s are incredibly proud of the boys with their brilliant performance and attitude throughout a fantastic day.
